The fall foliage is starring with its stunning array of golds and reds in our gardens and campuses. And that means it’s also the perfect time to hit refresh on your hairstyle.

The biggest trends for fall 2022 are moving away from hair that’s too “done” to softer styles that are super natural and easy to care for. A real blessing, since summer can be tough on hair — think of the drying and depleting effects of heat, sun, chlorine and salt water — particularly when you’re blonde and have had a lot of chemical services.

Textured Hair

One of the biggest beauty lessons we’ve all learned in the past two years has been to rekindle our relationship with our natural hair texture. So we’ll be seeing hair that has been air-dried without the help of a blow dryer, bringing its tousled, curly and awesome natural afro texture come alive and look beautiful.

Natural curls are definitely having a moment. We’re seeing them everywhere on social media where people are wearing them, sometimes with larger-than-life volume. Even disconnected curls — those that hang freely without too much bulk — have become super popular. In multiple variations of lengths and colours.

Bobs, short mullets, pixies and wavy haircuts prove that you can have any texture and still rock the look of shorter hair.

Bangs for Everyone

Despite the great debate between Gen-Zers and Millennials — “middle parts are cool and look great,” says the first group, while Millennials will not give up on their side parts — one thing is clear: for fall 2022 bangs are trending big time on Instagram and TikTok with celebrities, influencers and stylish women sporting them.

If you’ve been contemplating getting bangs for this season, one thing is sure: Fall is actually the best time of the year to finally take the plunge with the shears and chop off some centimetres of hair around your face. Since the weather is cooler, you won’t have to deal with summer’s hot and sticky temperatures that might make your bangs look greasy and flat on your forehead.
To gently test out the trend for a fringe, here are a couple of ideas you might want to try:

Wispy curtain bangs are ideal for first timers. They require little commitment because they will continue to look great as they grow out. Plus, they can easily be pinned back when you’re over them.

Long, swoopy side bangs are another early 2000s hit that’s big again, this year. Great paired with a messy updo and super sexy, too. You might like it!
